I've been thinking of (re)starting to do a few off-Manhattan longer runs in June. One mostly off-road, ocean-aired route is from Coney Island to Rockaway via Brighton, the Gateway Greenway past Floyd-Bennet, the Gil Hodges Bridge, and Jacob Riis waterfront. See map HERE.
It's just under 11 miles one way, completely flat apart from a gentle incline onto the Marine Parkway bridge, and v. easy to get to and from via Subway.
Does anyone else fancy running something like that as a gentle-paced training run?
The other, more taxing route I shall attack later on is in the Palisades: bus or bike it to the west side of the GW Bridge and start running at the southern end of the Henry Hudson Drive that runs north through the park to Alpine, NJ. There's a max. of about 17 miles out and back, albeit with some pretty serious hills to tackle (particularly the last one up to the park HQ). Good air out there, mind.
